President's Message
To my fellow members,
Thank you for electing me as your President for the next two years. I humbly introduce myself to those who did not attend the last Annual General Meeting 2025, I am Marc J Daniel and am a long standing member of the Malaysian Physiotherapy Association.
In my election speech I emphasized on “TIME”. The MPA is 63 years old and any non government organization or professional association or even a company to have been in existence for 63 years is an amazing feat, especially when it has been run voluntarily by our very own Malaysian physiotherapist themselves. I give ALL my predecessor’s a massive appreciation for your contribution to the profession and to making the MPA what it is today.
Now, it is my turn to lead the profession, guide and promote higher standards, uphold ethical practices and effectively run our Association to ensure future sustainability.
On a personal capacity together with my core office bearers, we will be overseeing the MPA is run professionally and in order to ensure financial sustainability, we will be organising our first MPA Budget EGM in December 2025. This meeting will entail obtaining members approval for the 2026 budget allocations to fulfil our objectives for the year ahead.
At the 2025 AGM, the members mandated a few issues for us (incoming exco) to look into. They are:-
- Completion of the new and revised MPA Constituition.
- Allocating RM1.5 M into a Fixed Deposit – for the purchase of an office.
- To review membership dues & increase memberships.
- Engaging an office staff to manage the operations of MPA.
- To phase out physiotherapy diploma level education.
- To discuss with Insurance Companies on physiotherapy services claims (informal).
Hence, we arranged our first get together and to put a face to the people we will be working with for the next two years! We have had several meetings thus far and have collectively agreed to try and fulfil what was mandated by the members.
In view of this, we will be making some significant changes on how we manage the Association and even some constitutional amendments that will have an immediate impact on all physiotherapist in the country. These changes are solely based on operational efficiency, raising standards, building strength as an integral component in the nation’s healthcare, laying foundations of governance and accountability to ensure MPA is financially sound and sustainable for future generations and always putting members first in most, if not all, our initiatives.
Our objective is and will always be the professional body representing physiotherapist of Malaysia.
I urge all physios (members & non members wishing to become members) to make time to attend this important and historic Extra-ordinary General Meeting 2025 in December (date to be announced).
In the meantime, I also seek your patience during this transition as the newly elected MPA Exco, as we make the required changes with all the regulatory bodies e.g.. Registrar of Societies etc, our affiliates national and internationally e.g.. Ministry, World Confederation etc, change of signatories and all else needed to find our footing.
I look forward to meeting ALL of you…Together we have a bigger voice and TOGETHER, we will make the profession stronger.
Thank you,
MARC J DANIEL
President
Malaysian Physiotherapy Association
(2025-2027)
